Dearne Community Arts Festival 2018
the second Dearne Community Arts’ Festival took place on 31st August and 1st September at Dearne ALC in Goldthorpe, giving the local area a chance to champion creativity and celebrate community through the arts. A wide range of arts – including paintings, photographs, crafts, sewing items, hardanger, cards and bags, hair accessories, Scrabble tile products and craft creations from local community groups – was on display in the High Street area of the school, with the performing arts featuring in the main hall and technology in the form of a 3D printer and virtual reality cinema being creative in the Lecture theatre. new to this year’s festival was the chance to take part in workshops to have a go at something different – whether that was learning circus skills with tutors from Greentop Circus, having fun with writing with Ian mcmillan and Jeannette Ayton or chatting with author John Clarke, or learning how to make
clay models, play the ukulele or doing hot wax paintings, sand art, making hedgehog books or willow items. Such a wide variety of creativity was made possible through grants from the national Lottery Awards for All, Dearne Ward Alliance, tesco Bags of Help & Big Local Goldthorpe and Bolton-on- Dearne, and organisers are already hoping that the festival will take place in 2019 as well.
“We had a great time with so many local people and groups showcasing their talents,” said Julie turner, secretary of the arts’ festival committee. “the mayor commented that there was so much to see and do at the festival, and we are
so grateful to everyone who took part and attended because we love where
we live and want to celebrate all that’s creative in our local community.”
For more information, check
out the Facebook page (DearneCommunityArtsFestival) or contact Julie Turner on 07729 421405 or by email julie@gpcchurch.co.uk. If you want to take part next year (probably 30th & 31st August 2019), now’s the time to let us know!
