BeachParty
Fun in the Sun- you gotta love the Beach Party! We are trying to take more responsibility for events to make them more sustainable when BLt funding runs out, so this year we made our own beach and bought deck chairs that we can use again. As well as our usual popular entertainment and donkey rides, we featured an Irish dancing display and an inflatable assault course. Here are a few pictures to remind you of the glorious weather and fun that we had!
B:Friend:
Dearne area. b:Friend pairs volunteer befrienders with socially isolated neighbours to pop-in, once-a-week, for a cuppa and a chat. Sometimes, that’s all that is needed.
Have you been feeling alone? no one should have no one, this befriending project could support you. there is no cost associated with the service and, as long as the charity has a volunteer near where you live, they’ll be able to pair you with a befriender. b:Friend is also launching two weekly Social Clubs in the Dearne area. It’s not just about bingo and bunting: sessions are energetic and can vary from cheerleading to creative dance to crafts to poetry recitals. no week is the same!
So, what is involved? Well, a befriender will be paired with an older neighbour that lives nearby and, once the charity has made the introduction, they’ll visit once-a-week for companionship, perhaps a cuppa and some cake and, in some instances, a trip out here-or-
there. If you’ve got some time to spare and would like to become a befriender, register your interest at letsbfriend.org. uk. We look forward to working in and with the community. Contact us to find out more on 07523 698530.
Go WILD in Thurnscoe!
Big Local thurnscoe is looking for local schools and organisations to participate in an exciting new public art project next year. We will be purchasing ‘blank’ sculptures of wild animals ready for decoration to form a spring sculpture trail across the village. more details from Alison.
the new befriending project to tackle loneliness
It can be a long week when you don’t see or speak to anyone. many people in our area can no longer get out- and-about like they once did, leaving them feeling alone and disconnected from their community. A new project aiming to reduce loneliness facing our older neighbours has launched in the
